Bishop, McClellan lead Bearcats over Seagoville

Aledo quarterback Jake Bishop threw three TD passes and had a 11-yard touchdown run as the Bearcats opened the 5A Division II playoffs with a dominating 48-13 victory over Seagoville Thursday night at Bearcat Stadium.

Bishop completed 11 of 12 passes, all in the first half, for 233 yards. All of the touchdown passes went to Hampton Fay. The TD passes covered 16, 11 and 69 yards.

Junior running back Jase McClellan had 136 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns, also all in the first half.

McClellan got the Bearcat offense going early. After the Bearcat defense forced the Dragons into a three and out, Aledo took over at its own 49.

McClellan ripped off a 38 yard run on Aledo’s first offensive play. After Bishop threw his only incomplete pass of the night on the Bearcat’s second offensive play, McClellan finished the drive with a 13-yard scoring run.

Just three minutes into the game, Aledo took a 7-0 lead and McClellan had two carries for 51 yards and a TD.

Aledo scored on its first five possession to take a 35-0 lead. It was 41-0 at halftime and most of the starters did not see action in the second half. The second string offense added a Ryan Anderson 10 yard TD run on the first possession of the second half to make it 48-0.

The No. 1 ranked Bearcats improve to 11-0 with the victory.

Seagoville ends the season at 5-6.

Aledo will play the winner of the Friday’s playoff game between the Lovejoy Leopards and the Kaufman Lions at 1 p.m. At Penning Field in Bedford. Both of those teams enter Friday’s game at 7-2. Kaufman is the runnerup from District 8 and Lovejoy is the third place team from District 7.
