Big Second Half Earns Aledo 48-29 Win Over Midlothian

MIDLOTHIAN – Jase McClellan rush for 168 yards and five touchdowns to lead Aledo (5-0, 3-0) to a 48-29 victory over the Panthers in a District 5-5A game here Friday.

Aledo scored 27 unanswered points in the second half to turn a close contest into a run away victory.

McClellan started the second half spree with a 62-yard TD run on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter.

The Aledo defense, which had trouble containing the Midlothian option run game in the first half, suddenly came to life in the second half. The Bearcats stopped Midlothian on a fourth-and-seven play from the Aledo 47 early in the third quarter. Midlothian had converted three other fourth down plays in the game, but the Panthers luck ran out in the third quarter.

The Bearcats, who never had to punt in the game, opened up a 34-21 lead on McClellan’s 9 yard TD run.

Aledo then forced Midlothian into a three-and-out and the Panther’s first punt of the game from their own 20. After a good punt return by Tre Owens, the Bearcats had a first down on the Midlothian 43. The Bearcats went for the knockout punch and Jake Bishop tossed a 43-yard strike to Jo Jo Earle, the second time in the game that they connected for a TD. That made the score 41-21 and the defense wasn’t finished with its second half turnaround.

Safety Tre Owens intercepted a Midlothian pass to end the Panthers next drive.

McClellan’s fifth TD of the night capped the next drive to give Aledo a 48-21 lead.

In three district games, McClellan has scored 13 touchdowns.

Bishop completed nine of 12 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns.
