Big plays help JV Orange hold off Trinity, 28-21

Aledo JV Orange got long touchdowns from its offense, defense and special teams in Thursday’s 28-21 victory over Trinity at Bearcat Stadium.

It only took the Bearcats 16 seconds to take their first lead as Matt Tague returned the opening kick 101 yards for a touchdown. Even though Aledo never trailed in the game, Trinity answered the first three Aledo touchdowns.

Trinity tied the score at 7-7 with a 60-yard pass play with 2:47 left in the first quarter.

Just five plays later Aledo took the lead again when quarterback Gatlin Johnson hooked up with Brice McCullough for a 75-yard TD pass. McCullough caught the ball at the 30 then broke a tackle attempt at the 20 to get into the endzone.

Midway through the second period, Trinity tied the game a 14 with a 35-yard TD run. However, Caden Anderson gave Aledo a second great kickoff return when he ran 58-yards to the Trinity 12. Tague had a 12-yard TD run from there to give the Bearcats the lead back 21 seconds after Trinity had tied the game.

Trinity scored on their opening drive of the second half to tie the game at 21.

After an missed field goal by Aledo, Trinity drove into Aledo territory midway through the fourth quarter. The with 4:33 left in the game, Anderson returned a fumble 60 yards for the winning score.

The JV Orange team improves to 3-0 on the season and will play Everman in a district game next Thursday at home.
