Bethesda Christian Rally Falls Short in TAPPS 2A State Title Game

The Bethesda Christian School girls basketball team rallied from a 13-point first-quarter deficit to take a second-quarter lead, then rallied from eight points behind to start the fourth quarter to cut the lead to two before falling to St. Paul Catholic School 33-26 in the TAPPS 2A State Championship game.

The Cardinals’ full court press forced Bethesda into 12 first-quarter turnovers allowing St. Paul to jump out to a 13-0 lead

The Lady A’s then outscored St. Paul 15-1 to take a 15-14 lead late in the second quarter.

Sophomore Avery Robinson hit a pair of three-pointers to help put Bethesda back in the game.

The Cardinals got a pair of free throws to close the first half with a 16-15 lead.

Bethesda was held scoreless in the third quarter as St. Paul stretched the lead to 23-15.

Bethesda’s Hailey Clagg scored nine consecutive points to help the Lady A’s cut the lead to 28-26 with two minutes to play. St. Paul then made 5 free throws in the final minutes to put the game away.

Clagg led Bethesda with 12 points, while Robinson and Keely Mitchell each finished with 6 points. Bethesda finished its season with a 23-9 record.
