The Aledo boys basketball team used the transition offense and inside scoring from senior forward Cole Nitsch in the fourth quarter to rally past China Spring, 58-47, Friday afternoon.
Aledo had jumped out to a 37-27 lead with 2:18 left in the third quarter before China Spring ripped off 10 straight points to tie the game at 37-37 with 7:35 left in the third quarter.
The game was tied at 41-41 with 5:25 left in the game before Aledo began to pull away. Bearcats went on a 13-2 run to win the game.Nitsch scored nine points the the fourth quarter. Nitsch hit one of two free throws with 5:12 left to make it 42-41, then he bullied his way to the basket to score and make it 43-41 with 4:44 left in the game.
Sophomore guard Daniel Sohn scored a team-high 16 points for Aleldo and Max Newell added 12 points.
Sohn then scored in transition to make it 46-41 with 4:07 left in the game. Another transition bucket and shot inside by Nitsch make it 50-43 with 3:06 to play.
The win against the 20th ranked team in Class 4A raises the Bearcats’ record to 11-8.
