The Aledo offense continued to pile on the points while the defense came up with three turnovers to open District 5-5A Division 2 play with a 63-30 victory over Burleson Centennial.
Centennial entered the week at No. 9 in the state poll but they were no match for top-ranked Aledo, which jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back.
Quarterback Jake Bishop threw for more than 281 yards and five touchdowns, four of them two Money Parks. Jo Jo Earle also had a TD reception and 144 yards on seven receptions. Running back Jase McClellan finished with 21 carries for 186 yards and four touchdowns.
Aledo’s first touchdown was set up by a fumble recovery by Aledo defensive lineman Logan Thurman. On the first play after the turnover, Earle caught a 48-yard TD pass from Bishop.
Bishop then threw a TD pass to Parks to make it 14-0 and on the kick off to Centennial, Aledo’s Sam Forman recovered a fumble. McClellan capped the drive with his first TD, a 1-yard run, to make it 21-0.
Bishop then threw anther TD to Parks just before the half. Aledo led 28-9 at halftime.
The Bearcats then scored on their first two possession of the second half to open up a 42-16 led, before Centennial started making a comeback.
Aledo improves to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in district play, while Centennial falls to 2-1 and 0-1.
