The top-ranked Bearcats got three TDs from receiver Jo Jo Earle, two from running back Jase McClellan, two TD passes from quarterback Jake Bishop as the offense got into the festive mood of homecoming by pouring in 38 first-half points in Friday’s 52-6 District 5-5A victory over Everman.
The defense and special teams joined the party as linebacker Max Lucas had a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown and kicker Harper Smith had a 25-yard field goal.
Aleldo improves to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in district play.
Earle got the Bearcats on the board with their first TD on an 18-yard TD pass to the right corner of the endzone with 5:28 left in the first quarter.
Junior running back McClellan took his first carry of the game to the house on Aledo’s next possession. McClellan raced 38-yards around the left side to make it 14-0 with 3:43 left in the first quarter. McClellan finished with 129 yards rushing while playing just over a half in the game.
Smith’s 25-yard field goal made it 17-0 with 10:06 left in the second quarter.
Two plays later, Lucas intercepted a short pass and weaved his way past defenders to the endzone to make it 24-0 with 9:18 left in the half.
The Bearcat offense needed just two plays on their next scoring drive. McClellan got the first 13 yards with a good run, then he got the ball on the second play, but handed the ball off to Earle on a reverse. Earle raced back to the home sideline. He easily ran inside the 10, where it looked like he would be stopped. However, he dragged several Everman defenders into the endzone to complete the 37-yard TD play. to make it 31-0.
A bad snap on an Everman punt attempt allowed Aledo to take possession at the Bulldog 20. Three runs by McClellan completed the drive to give Aledo a 38-0 halftime lead.
The first-string offense had one drive in the second half, which took just six plays to cover 64-yards. Three of those plays were pass receptions by Earle, including a 4-yard TD reception to make it 45-0.
The second string offense got a score when tailback Avery Jackson took a 38-yard run to the house to make it 52-0.
