The Anna Coyotes used a dominate first half to roll to a 26-0 victory over Chapel Hill in the UIL 4A Division 1 state championship game Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Offensive MVP Edward Chumley had a pair of TD runs and a touchdown reception, all in the first half to lead Anna, 15-1, to the school’s first state championship. Chumley finished with 71 yards on 16 carries.
Defensive MVP CJ Miller, had 9 of his 15 tackles in the first half when Anna’s defense held Chapel Hill to 19 yards of offense. Anna scored all of its points in the first half.
The Coyotes also got a 74-yard punt return from Jabari Finnie to set up one of their three first half touchdowns.
Anna opened the scoring on its first possession when Chumley had a 6-yard TD run with 8:37 left in the first quarter. The Coyotes added a 22-yard field goal later in the first quarter before breaking the game open with 16 points in the second quarter.
Chumley had a 2 yard TD run then caught a 13-yard TD pass from quarterback Ziondre Wiliams to ake it 24-0 with 5:25 left in the first half.
Anna then added a safety when the defense backed Chapel Hill up to their own 2 and on fourth down the snap went over the punter’s head for a safety.
Chapel Hill found some offense in the second half, but Anna’s defense managed to get the shutout by stopping the Bulldogs on downs inside the 5 with 7:48 left to play. Chapel Hill’s first drive of the second half ended when Finnie recovered a fumble for Anna at the 11 and returned it to the 22.
