Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi threw four touchdown passes; Ryan Williams ran for two touchdowns; Brian Fleming caught two touchdown passes, and Hauss Hejny caught a touchdown pass and threw a touchdown pass as the Bearcats improved to 3-0 on the season with a 64-0 win over Arlington Heights.
Fowler-Nicolosi finished the game 15-19-1 for 295 yards and four touchdowns. He threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.
Part of his success early was getting the ball to his sophomore receiver Hejny. The sophomore transfer from All Saints caught 4 passes for 124 yards in the first half. He finished the game with five receptions for 158 yards. Most of the yards came after he caught the passes.
Aledo’s first possession showed the home crowd how the quarterback and receiver were going to be on the same page against the Yellow Jackets.
The first play was a 17-yard completion to Hejny and the second play was a short pass to Hejny that went for a 43-yard touchdown.
Fowler-Nicolosi completed his first six passes in the game. By then he had 153 passing yards and the Bearcats led 21-0.
On Aledo’s second possession, Fowler-Nicolosi threw a 23-yard pass to to Fleming then found Hejny, who caught the pass and weaved through the secondary for 50 yards The long play set up a 4-yard TD run by Williams.
The Bearcats led 14-0 and needed just five plays to cover 137 yards on the two drives.
Jason Llewellyn caught a 6-yard pass from Fowler-Nicolosi to cap Aledo’s third drive to make it 21-0 with 1:25 to play in the first quarter.
The Bearcats did have two turnovers in the game, losing fumbles on a first half punt return and a second half kick return.
The Yellow Jackets drove to the Aledo 30 after the second-quarter Aledo fumble, but Sammy Steffe ended that threat with an interception that he returned 75 yards for a TD to make it 28-0 with 8:17 left in the first half.
Aledo tacked on two more TDs late in the first half. The first was a 3-yard TD run by Williams, then the Bearcats worked some magic in the final seconds of the first half for anther TD.
Aledo moved 71 yards in just 43 seconds for that last score of the first half.
Fleming turned a short pass into a 41-yard TD play on the last play of the half to make it 42-0.
Aledo’s defense not only kept the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard, but they forced Alrington Heights to go three-and-out six times.
The Bearcat defense held the Yellow Jackets to 108 total yards. Arlington Heights had 65 rushing yards on 39 attempts, for an average of less than 1.7 yards per attempt.
Fowler-Nicolosi got his last TD pass on Aledo’s first possession of the second half when he connected with Fleming on a 10-yard score.
The defense added a safety when they backed up Arlington Heights to their own 3 and a snap to the Yellow Jacket punter sailed over his head and out of the endzone.
Hejny threw his TD pass to Smith early in the fourth quarter.
Smith ended up being the leading rusher for Aledo. He carried the ball on every down on an 8-play, 67-yard drive the last time the Bearcats had the ball.
Aledo opens district play next week when it travels to Burleson to play the Elks. Burleson dropped to 2-1 Friday with a 42-37 loss to Azle.
