Aledo Rallies Past Timberview, 35-21

Aledo won its 100th consecutive district game dating back to Oct. 12, 2007, but had to rally in the fourth quarter to defeat Mansfield Timberview 35-21.

Fourth-quarter touchdowns from Ryan Williams and Jason Llewellyn helped Aledo (7-0, 4-0) erase a 21-20 deficit.

The Bearcats dominated the fourth quarter. The Aledo defense held Timberview to just 17 yards and 1 first down in the fourth quarter, while Aledo got 110 yards during it’s two late scoring drives.

Williams, who played for the first time since the Everman game, led the team in rushing with 101 yards, 58 in the fourth quarter.

Fowler-Nicolosi threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns, including a one-handed 16-yard TD catch by Llewellyn on a fourth-down pass in the final minute to put the game away.

Aledo had to overcome a pair of turnovers to keep the winning streak alive.

The Beatcats started out hot, jumping out to a 14-0 lead, with both touchdowns set up by long passes to Hauss Hejny.

A 64-yard completion to Hejny set up Aledo’s first TD. Jalen Pope scored on an 8 yard reception from Fowler-Nicolosi. Pope had to hold the ball one-handed over the inside of the pylon as he was falling out of bounds to complete the play.

Aledo’s second TD was set up by two long passes, 39 yards to Hejny and 28 yards to Llewellyn. Davhon Keys ran for the final two yards to give Aledo a 14-0 lead.

Timberview then scored twice in second quarter to tie the game.

The Wolves cut the lead to 14-7 early in the second quarter.

Timberview got its second score on an interception that went through the hands of an Aledo receiver with 1:08 left in the half. The Wolves needed just 46 seconds to cover 44 yards to tie the game.

Aledo forced a three-and-out from Timberview to open the second half then took the lead with a 48-yard TD drive.

Hejny had a 20-yard TD run out of the wildcat formation to give Aledo a 20-14 lead but the Bearcats failed to convert the PAT.

The Wolves then used a pair of pass interference penalties to keep a 75-yard TD drive alive to take a 21-20 lead with 3:27 left in the third quarter.

Aledo then drive all the way to the Timberview 6 only to fumble the ball away.

However, the Aledo defense owned the fourth quarter. Timberview had to punt from its own 6 and the Bearcats were able to start their game-winning drive from the Timberview 32.

After struggling to run the ball in the first half, Aledo ran on seven consecutive plays with Williams scoring from three yards out to make it 26-21 with 5:47 left in the game. Fowler-Nicolosi then threw a 2-point conversion pass to Llewellyn to make it 28-21.

The Aledo defense then held Timberview to a three-and-out.

Williams ran the ball for 42 yards on the first five plays in Aledo’s final drive. After Henjy and Keys each carried the ball once, Aledo was facing a fourth-and-eight from the Timberview 16.

Aledo decided to go for a TD and Fowler-Nicolosi threw it to the back corner of the end-zone where Llewellyn made the one-handed catch to put the game away.
