Aledo Races Past Burleson, 56-24

The Aledo Bearcats scored touchdowns on their first eight possessions in the game to close out the regular season with a 56-24 victory over Burleson.

DeMarco Roberts rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns to lead Aledo. Roberts scored on runs of 12, 35 and 75 yards, all in the first half. His 75-yard TD run with 1:10 left in the first half came just 13 seconds after Burleson had scored to cut Aledo’s lead to 28-10.

The big-play gave Aledo a 35-10 halftime lead then the Bearcats scored the first three times they had the ball in the second half to open up a 56-10 lead. Burleson closed the scoring with a couple of touchdowns against the Aledo reserves in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi finished the game by completing 9 of 12 passes for 157 yards and one touchdown. The 37-yard TD pass went to tight end Jason Llewellyn.

Llewellyn finished with three catches for 70 yards to lead Aledo in receiving yardage.

The Bearcats (7-1, 5-0) finish as the District 5-5A Division 2 District champs and will meet Dallas Hillcrest in the first round of the playoffs. Hillcrest finished fourth in District 6-5A Division 2 (4-4 overall with an additional two forfeit wins).

The Bearcats never trailed in the game. They five plays to march 53-yards after the opening kickoff. Jo Jo Earle had two receptions for 27 yards, and Roberts got all of the rest on runs, including the 12-yard TD run with 9:28 left in the first quarter.

Burleson drove all the way to the Aledo 7 on its first possession before settling for a 24-yard field goal.

On Aledo’s second drive, Roberts had 57 rushing yards, including the final 35 to make it 14-3 with 3:50 in the first quarter.

The Elks turned the ball over on downs at the Aledo 15 on their second drive. Aledo then drove 85-yards on six plays. Earle took a snap in the wildcat formation and ran around the right end untouched for 60 yards to make it 21-3 with 6:53 left in the half.

Fowler-Nicolosi hit Brian Fleming for a pair of long passes (18 and 25 yards) as the Bearcats quickly moved into the red zone. On third down at the Burleson 7, Earle took a snap in the Wildcat and looked like he may score before he was stripped of the ball. Gatlin Johnson recovered the fumble in the end zone for the Aledo touchdown. Clay Murador’s PAT kick made it 28-3 with 2:14 left in the half.

Burleson got a great kick retun then needed just three plays to cover 35 yards for its first TD of the game. Burlenson quarterback Jalen Kitna tossed a 25-yard TD to Luke Peterson to cut Aledo’s lead to 28-10 with 1:23 left in the first half.

Aledo got those points right back when Roberts took the ball around the left end for a 75-yard TD run with 1:10 left in the first half to open the lead to 35-10.

The third quarter was all Bearcats as they got touchdowns from Llewellyn, Brant Hayden and Jeremiah James to open the score to 56-10.
