Aledo Middle School runs past Weatherford Hall, 29-12

Aledo Middle School tailback Grant Mooney ran 14 times for 166 yards and three TDs to lead the 8th grade A Team to a 29-12 victory over Weatherford Hall Middle School Tuesday at home.

Quarterback Brant Hayden added 64 rushing yards and a TD run.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 23 seconds left in the first period when Hayden 10 yard keeper on the speed option. Hayden broke several tackles when he broke up the middle then to the right sideline to score.

Aledo added a pair of Mooney TD runs early in the second quarter to take a 21-0 lead before the Aledo defense had given up a single first down to Hall Middle School.

The first score came on a 48-yard TD run with 6:50 left in the half.  Mooney added a 3-yard TD run and the PAT run to make it 21-0 with 3:41 left in the half.

The Hall Middle School offense finally found some running room against the Aledo defense after that. It took the Roos just three plays to cover 68 yards and cut the lead to 21-6 at the half.

A pair of lost fumbles stopped Aledo in the third quarter and set up the Roos second TD. Hall scored on the final play of the third quarter to cut the lead to 21-12.

Mooney returned the kickoff to the Hall 38-yard line to set up Aledo’s final score. It took just four plays, all runs by Mooney, for Aledo to score and make it 29-12 on Mooney’s PAT run.

The Aledo defense also got a nifty interception from Boston Epley late in  the game to keep Hall from closing the gap.

The victory improves Aledo 8th Grade A team  to 2-0 on the season and they will host Granbury Middle School next Tuesday.
