Devin Miller pitched a three-hit shutout and the Aledo Bearcats downed McKinney North 6-0 to sweep the 5A DI state semifinal series to advance to Friday’s state championship game in Round Rock.
Aledo shut out North 4-0 on Thursday, giving the Bulldogs their first two losses in the playoffs.
Miller struck out seven and walked only two in the complete game effort.
Aledo took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Luke Trager scored on a sacrifice bunt from Nick Foster. Miller made the slim lead hold up and the Bearcats finally give him some extra runs when they scored four runs in the sixth inning.
Two runs scored on bases-loaded walks, then Brooks Burdine added a two-run single. Aledo added a run in the seventh inning on an RBI ground out by Trager.
Miller retired the McKinney North side in order in the bottom of the seventh then the Aledo bench stormed the field to celebrate.
Aledo, 33-8, will meet Comal Smithson Valley, 28-12, at 7 p.m. Friday in Round Rock.
