Playoff-bound Ladycats stay undefeated in district

The playoff-bound Aledo Ladycats, who clinched the District 4-5A championship last Friday, stayed undefeated in district play with a 51-39 victory over Wichita Falls Friday as the team celebrated senior night.

Aledo jumped out to an early 14-5 lead after one quarter by scoring off turnovers from its full-court pressure.

The Ladycats weren’t hitting their outside shots in the first half and Wichita Falls kept it close through the first half by getting into double bonus and taking advantage at the free throw line.

Aledo led 27-15 at halftime with Audrey Pearce scoring 9 points to lead the way the Ladycats to the 12-point lead.

Elizabeth Allanach, who had 4 points in the first half, hit a pair of three pointers in the second half as the Ladycats came out hot and took a 44-27 lead into the fourth quarter. Aledo opened the lead to as large as 21 points be the coach emptied the bench and the Lady Coyotes were able to trim the lead to 12 points.

The victory improves Aledo to 7-0 in district and 23-9 overall. Wichita Falls, which had won two games in a row coming in, fell to 9-18 and 2-5 district.

Aledo will finish district play Tuesday with a game at Wichita Falls Rider.
