Ladycats hold off Bridgeport, 42-35

The Ladycats opened the basketball season with 42-35 victory over the Bridgeport Sissies Saturday in Aledo.

Aledo had opened up a 21-point lead late in the third quarter before having to hold off a furious Bridgeport rally.

Aledo jumped out to a 26-10 halftime lead by outscoring Bridgeport 17-1 over the final 9 minutes of the first half.

After Bridgeport had tied the game at 9-9 late in the first quarter, Aledo scored twice in the final minute of the quarter to lead 13-9.

Senior guard Addyson Hebel went on a personal 8-0 scoring streak to start second quarter as Aledo stretched the lead to 21-9.

Hebel’s scoring streak included a pair of three-pointers and a pair of free throws.

Bridgeport ratcheted up it’s full court pressure in the fourth quarter to ignite it’s rally. The Sissies started with a 9-0 run in the first 2:30 of the fourth quarter before Hebel hit another 3-pointer to stem the tide. Bridgeport then cut the lead to 38-31 before Reagan Davis made two fast break layups in the final two minutes.

Saturday was the first of four home games this month for the Ladycats. Aledo hosts Brock on Tuesday night and Argyle next Friday. Both games are at 6:15.
